Bob Hatcher’s Weather for Thornton, New Hampshire

We are in Thornton, New Hampshire, USA, and our weather camera faces due west and takes one picture every minute.  Those pictures are then stitched together to make time-lapse videos.  See below.

That is the Pemigewasset River on the left. We are a certified natural wildlife habitat.

And, here for webcams of Mount Washington from Wildcat Ski area.

This is what the weather is like right now, looking west Example

Lastly, I wanted to show how the seasons change, so, this one is a shot taken at noon every day. It starts in mid-March 2016 and plays very quickly. If you want to slow it down, click the button below and it will play back at one-third speed.

As of July 10, 2021 we have a new webcam.  This faces northwest toward Mt. Moosilauke.  It pans left and right and zooms so the picture may change periodically.  Still picture and 3-hr time lapse video.

Analyzed weather map for this morning

I am a big fan of the website www.tropicaltidbits.com developed and maintained by Levi Cowan who is a graduate student in tropical meteorology at Florida State University. The following two maps are from his website. The maps depict the weather at 1.00 PM tomorrow and the next day.

Thanks, Chris for the comment. Glad you like the time-lapse. Chris and I skied in Portillo, Chile in August 2022. Fifteen inches new the first two days then perfect sun and 35 the rest of the week.

Love your website, so much info. And little did I know anything about this. You learn something new about your friends everyday.

I am enjoying the site. just purchased a home in thornton, but still living near the coast. Why is the precipitation reading not working? would like to know the snow totals up there.

Welcome to the neighborhood, Tom. The reason is that this is a rain gauge, it does not measure snow. Snowfall has to be measured manually so your best bet is to check both http://www.waterville.com and http://www.loonmtn.com for their snow totals. We got about six inches today but it’s blowing away quickly. We’re having gusts to 35 mph right now! On the flat, yesterday there was about 24-inches on the ground.

The One-a-Day video was playing so quickly it was hard to view it. So, it took me a while but I figured out how to give you the option to play it back at one-third speed.

Today I put up a chart of the long term averages of: Temperature, Rainfall, and Snowfall. The data are for Laconia which is the closest data available. It is about 30 miles south of us and should be a reasonable approximation. We get more snowfall than them and our summer temps will be higher (as they are modified by Lake Winnipesauke) and our winters temps will be lower because of our proximity to the mountains.

I just added the long range forecast for temperature and precipitation. This comes from NOAA and is updated on the first day of the month and is valid for the following 30-days.

    Hello,

We recently moved to Thornton NH from Kingston NH, and are operating the Gilcrest Cottages & Motel off of exit 29. We just found this site and your cameras and are so excited to have this resource available! Would it be ok if we linked your site/camera to our website to share with our guests/potential guests?

Pretty cool Bob. I recently added a weather station and webcam at Campton Mountain. In the process of getting them live now.

Huge difference between the winter up north and back home around here in Lowell this year.

Thanks for the comment. That campground is in Campton about a mile south of us on the western side of the river. We’re on the eastern side.

Great website! I love the idea of a “season” cam; that’s really going to be nice to see a full year. Do you save the video log for archive? I don’t have any weather cams yet, but how did you set up the snapshots? Thanks for the website!
